Creating Clarity with Visualizations of Product Changes
Product change processes are a significant challenge in increasingly distributed and globally operating companies. On one hand, products are becoming ever more complex, so adjustments typically impact not only design but also function and other aspects. On the other hand, more stakeholders worldwide are involved in the change process, and supply chain manufacturing faces a massive volume of document versions for reviews. Quick and easy access to relevant information and efficient handling of documents and product changes are therefore indispensable.
The project aimed to improve the simplicity, transparency and quality of the entire product change process by developing a solution for visualizing design changes. This solution is now in use at various companies.
Project Challenges
Making Change Visualization as Simple as Possible
The challenge for Intelliact was to develop a solution that seamlessly integrates into existing systems via standardized interfaces. This also means that the application accesses the data available in these enterprise systems. Based on a standardized document comparison solution, a web application was designed for the customer, enabling employees to easily visualize, compare, and annotate product versions. An essential aspect was also IP protection: the solution reliably considers the complex access permissions within the group of companie.

Globally Productive Solution in Just 7 Weeks
Within seven weeks, the solution was globally deployed, and all relevant employees were accordingly trained. With this solution, employees can now graphically display changes within various product versions in 2D PDF files, without the need for additional elaborate text descriptions. Annotations are not managed separately but are directly placed visually in the drawing.

With the visualization solution developed and implemented by Intelliact, product changes can be more easily and comprehensively captured in the existing system and correctly implemented in production. Changed objects are immediately visible; annotations are directly located on the object through shapes or arrows in the document or drawing, and document versions can be easily compared. This allows all involved parties to make the change process more efficient and transparent—without detours and additional change descriptions via other tools.
